Sowing Change: empowering women through nature-based enterprises
Sowing Change is a transformative livelihood-to-leadership initiative that empowers women to lead their communities in developing financially innovative, sustainable nature-based solutions. These efforts support landscape restoration, foster green economic growth, enhance climate resilience, and connect local action to a global climate movement.
The initiative was first launched in Kenya’s Amboseli-Chyulu sub-landscape, part of the Southern Kenya–Northern Tanzania (SOKNOT) transboundary conservation area.
Building on WWF’s existing work in the region, Sowing Change aligns with national restoration goals, to plant 1 billion trees by 2030, directly restore 5,000 hectares, and indirectly restore 20,000 hectares.
Implemented through the CARE-WWF Alliance, the initiative strengthens ongoing conservation efforts by embedding livelihood opportunities and placing women and girls at the center of change.
The CARE-WWF Alliance operates at the vital intersection of conservation and development. Bringing together two global leaders, the Alliance combines complementary strengths to protect ecosystems, support the women who depend on them, and build a future where people and nature thrive together
