Response to the inquiry report into the translocation of black rhinos

All of us at WWF are deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of ten rhinos following translocation to Tsavo East National Park by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). The news of the death of the tenth rhino is heartbreaking.
The results of the inquiry released today by the Government of Kenya into the deaths stated that there were areas of clear negligence by KWS. These findings are extremely concerning and have brought to light a number of issues which WWF is treating very seriously. We recognise that grave mistakes were made in the translocation operation and as a result we will be urgently reviewing the inquiry report and undertaking an assessment of our processes as a donor.
WWF will be offering its support to the government in actioning recommendations of the inquiry to prevent such losses in the future. We stand by to assist in any further assessments by the Government of Kenya.
