Together for Oceans - Sustainable Blue Economy Conference
The first ever global Sustainable Blue Economy Conference, co-hosted by Kenya, Canada and Japan, was held in Nairobi, Kenya, 26-28 November. The conference had over 18,000 registered participants from 184 countries, including seven Heads of State and Government, 84 ministers, and leaders from a wide range of public and private sectors, NGOs, civil society organizations, and ordinary citizens.
World Wide Fund for Nature delegation was led by WWF International President, Pavan Sukhdev, Oceans Practice Leader, John Tanzer, Mohamed Awer, CEO WWF-Kenya, and Fred Kumah - Director WWF-Regional Office of Africa
John Tanzer- WWF Oceans Practice Leader, delivered WWF’s commitment and reiterated WWF’s ambition to provide meaningful technical guidance to deliver the sustainable blue economy with public and private sector partners.
WWF was one of the organizers of the Civil Society Forum. Fred Kwame- Director WWF-Regional Office of Africa was a speaker and panel participant, talking about WWF’s efforts to support the transition to a Sustainable Blue Economy.
Philip Odhiambo - Energy and Climate Change Programme Coordinator, WWF- Kenya, was one of the lead speakers at the humangroves side event organized by the Save Our Mangroves Now! initiative by WWF, IUCN and BMZ. Philip elaborated on our work towards integrating Mangroves into Kenya’s National Climate Change Action Plan
